PwC Named a Leader for Business Strategy and Planning

Maintaining a year over year position as a leader in the ALM Vanguard for Business Strategy and Planning, PwC improved in “Breadth of Capabilities”, moving from #4 to the #2 position and maintained a consistent position in “Depth of Capabilities”.
 
In the report, ALM defines, “Capability depth denotes a provider’s capacity to get results for clients, while capability breadth indicates its ability to deploy that capacity across multiple client scenarios.”
 
Nathan Simon, Senior Director, Management Consulting Research at ALM and author of the report, states, “Inspired by the “capabilities-driven strategy” perspective and associated tools developed by its Strategy& affiliate, PwC is particularly effective at helping clients connect where-to-play with how-to-win choices. In this, the firm is notable for its ability to shed light on the hard to evaluate cultural drivers of strategic outcomes.”
 
Simon goes on to elaborate on PwC’s capability driven strategy, “PwC Strategy&’s consulting approach, “capabilities-driven strategy,” builds from the premise that good strategy is more about the way it is integrated with execution than approaches that prioritize market selection. For this, PwC Strategy& believes companies need clarity on their distinctive value proposition, the short list of capabilities critical for delivering it, and which products and services best fit with it.”
 
The report discusses PwC’s approach, “PwC Strategy&’s service delivery starts with a mix of external market and internal capability assessments. At the heart of this are activities intended to create clarity and alignment for the client on what really matters to their performance in the market – in other words, assessing the client’s capabilities to deliver on their value proposition…The next phase consists of selecting strategies at a market segment level and defining strategic roles for portfolio businesses. The final phase translates strategies into discrete budgets and required portfolio, operating model, and operational changes.”
