Alternatives now make up almost a quarter of Sovereign Wealth Fund’s assets under management
“Sovereign Wealth Funds play an important role helping governments stabilise the economy and exchange rates. We expect alternatives to be prominent in SWF portfolios in the future as they can offer increased diversification, principal protection, a hedge against inflation, and an increase in portfolio performance.
- In this report, Sovereign Wealth Funds are defined as “pools of assets owned and managed directly or indirectly by governments to achieve national objectives”, in line with the OECD definition.
- The World Gold Council, the market development organisation for the gold industry, and the PwC Market Research Centre, collaborated to perform a joint study on the latest investment trends of Sovereign Wealth Funds and the relevance of alternatives for their portfolios in the future.
