Playing with the future: PwC’s immersive emerging tech experience
- “Intelligent Automation. Led by PwC Intelligent Process Automation Leader Mike Engel, this group was deeply engaged in a demo and discussion about workforce automation through the integration of robotic process automation (RPA), business process management, and natural language processing technologies. The application of intelligent automation helps PwC clients work smarter, create better work/life balance for employees, and lower operating costs. Mr. Engel presented a unique perspective by stressing that management and process control, as well as regulation, can be aided by intelligent automation rather than being inhibitors or constraints.
- Extended Reality. John Steggles, New Services and Emerging Technology Director, led the group through two extended reality scenarios, introducing the group to augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR). The first scenario used VR to simulate employee training and coaching, giving participants the opportunity to make different decisions (with various outcomes) while sitting in front of an “simulated employee.” The second scenario, which also used a VR headset, enabled participants to view business performance data in 3-D while collaborating with other users in an interactive setting. The employee coaching session was especially well received, and nearly all attendees were interested in opportunities to test and deploy similar capabilities in their companies.
- IoT. PwC US Connected Solutions Leader, Rob Mesirow, led the groups through a couple of scenarios involving IoT, which in his words "make dumb things smart." This represents a new class of IoT solutions that are practical, relatively simple, and inexpensive for tracking assets to maximize use to identify suspicious activity, and/or decrease energy consumption, among many other use cases. One example Mesirow shared: a territory that governs the local gaming industry's tax management scored a big win working with PwC to accurately record gaming activities by attaching sensors to existing machines. Gaming providers could continue to operate and avoid the risk of improper tax reporting and fraud.”
